Gedo, July 29, 2018 (Hornnews24) – Somalia’s Alshabaab Islamic fighters have seized on Saturday afternoon the control of a strategic area from Jubba Land’s forces.
The Al-Qaida-linked group have waged a sudden offensive from different directions at base of Jubba Land regional forces at the Satelow settlement, a strategic road which links Dolow town to Luq town of the Gedo Province.
After an almost an hour of heavy fighting Jubba Land forces were defeated and they left behind weapons and ammunitions as they fled. Casualties of the fighting are not yet known.
Ethiopian troops who are based in a nearby neighbourhood were not involved in the fighting. Neither Jubba Land nor Al-Shabaab fighters has so far commented on the fighting.
The Al-Qaida-linked Alshabaab has intensified recently its attacks against the troops of the Somali federal government, the regional autonomous states and the foreign missions.
Somali government together with the regional administrations vowed many times to step up operations against Al-Shabab fighters in Somalia to flush out the group from the country with the help of AMISOM but still in vain.
